JUNJI TAKAMATSU

It has become 14 years since I joined the company. After joining the company, I have run around various countries everyday to do the maintenance of our engines as a service engineer for ten years. I have visited 25 countries so far. I sometimes stayed for a long term in some countries. I have experienced to stay for 7 months in the southern island where most Japanese do not stay. It is a good experience now though people have different cultures and customs, and I also met in danger there. Afterwards, I worked in the New York office and the Manila office. I am now responsible for engine parts sales worldwide from 2010, which I do not have experience to work in sales department. I would like to support for that the customer can be satisfied, so I visit the overseas customer regularly and offer not only parts sales but also technical solution of their problem and maintenance proposal. The DE series engine is released to the market in 2010. As the diesel engine is profound, I make an effort to study for catching up with the progressing technology.

There was time when it thought about “Worthwhile work” in last few years. Don’t you have following experience when you buy the electric appliance? First, you examined the function, compared with other maker’s, and checked the price beforehand, and then you talked about details to a salesclerk again in the store. This is an action from psychology to want to buy the one near your needs. Then, how would you think if the manufacturer side could not understand the buyer needs? I worked in the resident office in Taiwan for 4.5 years, the officer was only one Japanese. I made use of teamwork with both an agent members and the colleague in Japan then it worked on the business. As a result it is evaluated by the customer, and some of them became good friends called ‘PONYOU’ in Chinese even though the age is so different from me. We could have new business by that the Daihatsu diesel engine is purchased and operated by the customer. The birth of the new business is also related to the contribution to society as the company. We had the serious damage of the great earthquake disaster in East Japan district on March 11, 2011. We thought the reconstruction from the earthquake can be supported by contributing to society as the company indirectly. We would like to do the “Worthwhile work” every day with understanding accurate customer’s needs, thinking in their side, suggesting the best proposal, and proceeding with team.

I have been in charge of the service for marine diesel engine mainly for 4 years after joining the company. Originally I did not have experience for maritime world and was puzzled totally, but the senior people and the people from Daihatsu Diesel gave me various instruction. I become used to my work gradually. One day, I left for the anchored cargo vessel by a ferryboat with bringing the engine parts because malfunction occurred to a main engine in the offing of the Osaka Bay when it was storm. The sea was very rough and I felt very scary when I boarded the cargo vessel from a ferryboat, but when the main engine recovered and the vessel could be operated after the completion of repairing work, I was pleased with a captain and the chief engineer and they thank me very much. I would like to do this work with sincerity for that the customer can be satisfied and trusted from now on. I would like to keep making an effort to offer the high quality service every day.

I have belonged to the service department for 5 years after joining the company. Originally I did the maintenance the stationary generators. I was unexpectedly dispatched to an ocean liner for the service work due to no experience.1 year after joining the company, I have visited a cargo vessel alone, which all crew and the captain are Indian. As I could not speak English at all, it was so hard to communicate with the clew each other by the language barrier. I, however, completed the job without any trouble by using gestures and conversation by writing with an electronic dictionary. After that, I was invited dinner by a chief engineer and have traditional Indian dishes in the vessel, I had a good experience to chat with crew after the meal though it was short time. I keenly realized that I should have studied English more. I think I need further study and experience of the engine structure because it was more complicated than I thought.

It has become 33 years since I joined the company. I have belonged to the service department, engine sales department, and parts sales department. I have been in charge of parts sales department since March, 2010.I am promoting the business based on the experience with the customers in Ehime during the sales department. I would like to be the parts salesman who can give the customer technical advice as an ideal and become a fatalistic collaboration with customer. Trust with customer will be constructed with understanding the sold products well, expanding knowledge by considering independently, and supporting customers. In addition, I think it is important to trust myself before selling something for having a business with the customers in Ehime. Imabari is famous for the town of the shipbuilding, the towel, and the barbecued chicken. I easily introduce ocean line owners in Ehime. Ship owners in Ehime are the attracted shipping owners group in the world, it is not so historic area for shipping in compared to Greece and Hong Kong, but it is said to be remarkable developed and the numbers of managing vessels exceed their countries. The owned ocean liners are accounted over 600 approximately, it means the quarter or more of the Japanese whole vessels occupied by Ehime ship owner and the ratio of Ehime ship owners as leasing company is predominantly high.I think we are very lucky for doing business in such an environment though our company is located in the severe region. I would like to offer high quality service to the customers from now on.

I have belonged to the parts sales department for 19 years after joining the company. Trawlers at the East Sea and Yellow Sea are full for the maintenance in Shimonoseki fishing port enclosed by the sea every summer seasons until the first half of the 1975's.The offshore trawlers installed Daihatsu diesel engine remains only 4 pairs (8 vessels) at present, and all of them are over 20 years. The trawlers were replaced every 8 or 10 years during the golden age of the fisheries industry, I did not know the trawlers are operated for such a long time. I am anxious for how long the hull can be used rather than the engine. The generator on ferry is occurred the trouble two years ago, I investigated a damage part of the generator and arranged parts for repairing. I ask someone to bring parts by super-express called Shinkansen to Kokura from the parts warehouse in Moriyama and Ibaraki, and the repairing work was completed, the ferry was in time for 19:00 at departure from the port on schedule and I was pleased to the customer thankfully. I think that the customer can be relieved in looking for earlier delivery of urgent parts due to the trouble solution. It can be related with mutual trust deeply.

I have belonged to the parts sales department for 4 years after joining the company. I had 1 year training in Moriyama factory at the first year of joining the company. There was only the large-sized engine which I had never seen, and I felt very new all I had experienced. I will never forget what I did hard there for the first time in my life. After the training in the factory, I am belonged to the current department and responsible for the customers in Kyushu district. I often visit the fishing boat owners and ferry owners, all I got from them should be learnt. In addition, I got a chance to be responsible for expanding sale of the oil mist detector and I lead to work it. As the most customers are not so related with Daihatsu diesel engines, I remember being so nervous to have a business talk because I have never experienced so far when I first visit them. I do not have enough experience and knowledge, but I would like to study for being the businessman trusted by the customers in the future.
